Paint

LATEX PAINT

  • Can be brought to the Clean Sweep Hazardous Waste Collection for a fee
  • Water based paint -- NOT a hazardous waste once dry
    • Can be thrown out in the trash when it is completely dried out and solid

Four Ways to Dry Out Latex Paint

  • Pop the lid off of the can of paint and allow to air dry (works best for small amounts of paint)
  • Line a cardboard box with plastic and pour a thin layer of paint on the plastic and allow to dry. Continue to pour layers of paint until all paint is dry and hard. The box, plastic, paint can and lid can all go in the trash
  • Mix in kitty litter, sawdust or crumpled newspapers to speed up the drying time
  • Purchase a paint hardener and mix in (found at most home improvement or hardware stores)
