Smoke Detectors

Many smoke detectors contain a trace amount of radiation therefore they should not be placed in the trash. It is recommended that you return the smoke detector to the original manufacturer. The address for the manufacturer can typically be found in the user manual, original product box or online. Return policies and procedure vary between manufacturers, so it is best to call the company prior to mailing. Remember to remove any batteries from the smoke detector before disposal. Alkaline batteries can be thrown in the trash and lithium or rechargeable batteries can be brought to the Community Development Department office in the St. Croix County Government Center.
