Recycling Re-Use Challenge Winner

A person painting a vintage piece of furniture.

In 2023, the St. Croix County Resource Management Team held our first Recycling Re-Use Challenge. The contest asked St. Croix County residents to submit photos of items they have kept out of the landfill and have been given another life. This could be done through repair, refurbishing, or repurposing.

Congratulations to the winner of the 2023 contest, Erika Hybben. Erika kept this light fixture out of the landfill and gave it a beautiful second life! With spray paint, glue, plastic flowerpots, a wire cutter to remove the cords, and a drill to create drain holes, Erika created a charming hanging planter for garden flowers. Before and after photo of a light fixture that was transformed into a hanging flower planter.Pictured above is the before and after photo of the winning submission from Erika Hybben.

Thank you to Erika and everyone who submitted photos of their projects for doing their part to re-use resources!

The winner will receive:

  • 1-hour watercraft rental at Glen Hills or Homestead County Parks (park pass needed for entry)
  • Lunch cooler with mug and re-useable food storage bag.
  • Recycling magnet, highlighter, and seed packets.
