[ARCHIVED] Possible Measles Exposure

The word Measles next to a stethoscope.

Updated August 21, 2025

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and St. Croix County Public Health are notifying the public of possible measles exposure from an out-of-state traveler at the following location and time:

  • Location: Flying J Travel Center #470, 1191 70th Ave., Roberts, Wisconsin
  • Date: August 4
  • Time: 7:15 - 10 am

What to Do if You Were Exposed

Check if you are protected from measles

  • You are protected if you have one of the following:
    • Documentation (proof) of measles vaccination (MMR vaccine)
    • Were born before 1957
    • Laboratory evidence of disease or immunity

To check your vaccination status:

If you are unprotected and were exposed:

  • Stay home.
  • Call Public Health at 715-246-8263 and we will help you with next steps. If you reach voicemail, please leave a message and staff will return your call.

Monitor for symptoms:

  • Everyone exposed should monitor for measles symptoms through August 25.
  • If you were at the Flying J during the time listed above, symptoms may have started as early as August 11.

Symptoms may include:

  • Runny nose
  • High fever (may be greater than 104°F)
  • Tiredness
  • Cough
  • Red, watery eyes, or conjunctivitis (“pink eye”)
  • A red rash with raised bumps that starts at the hairline and spreads to the arms and legs three to five days after symptoms begin

If you were exposed and have symptoms of measles:

  • Stay home. Do not go to work, school, shopping, or use public transportation.
  • Call your doctor’s office or clinic before visiting. Because measles is highly contagious, it’s important that the office or clinic take steps to protect others before you arrive.
