Water coming out of a kitchen faucet. Text reads

St. Croix County is offering a free workshop that combines a traditional nitrate screening clinic with an engaging lineup of expert presentations. Residents are invited to drop off water samples for free nitrate screening and stay to learn more about nitrates in the County.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the St. Croix County Agriculture Services & Education Center. From 1–3 p.m., speakers will cover topics ranging from local nitrate trends and health implications to testing, treatment options, and county-level conservation practices. Water screening will be available from 1–4:30 p.m.

Workshop Details:

  • Date: Wednesday, February 11, 2026
  • Time: 1–4:30 p.m.
  • Location: St. Croix County Agriculture Services & Education Center - 1960 8th Ave., Baldwin, WI

Workshop Presenters:

  • Patty Schrank, Water Resource Specialist – Overview of nitrates in St. Croix County
  • Genevieve Palazzolo, Public Health Strategist – Health implications of nitrates
  • Cayla Cavey, Groundwater Specialist – Nitrate testing and treatment options
  • Tim Stieber, Land and Water Conservation Administrator – County conservation efforts addressing nitrates

To have your water screened for nitrates, participants are asked to bring in about eight ounces of water in a closed container, preferably glass, collected within 24 hours of the event. Results are available on the spot.

This is also a great opportunity to evaluate existing water treatment systems (reverse osmosis, filters, distillation, etc.). Participants using treatment systems are encouraged to bring in two samples: one before treatment and one after treatment to help assess how the system is performing.

Contact the county for further assistance if needed, 715-381-4933 or patty.schrank@sccwi.gov.
