Memorial Day Message from the CVSO

Dear Veterans and Families,

On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. It is a time for reflection—a moment to recognize their courage, their sacrifice, and the immeasurable cost of freedom. We also stand with Gold Star families and friends who continue to carry the deep and lasting grief of losing a loved one in uniform. Their sacrifice and strength are never forgotten.

The best way we can honor our fallen heroes is to live with purpose, carry their legacy forward, and support one another. I’m grateful for the many Veteran Service Organizations throughout St. Croix County—such as the American Legion, VFW, and others—that work to preserve the memory of those we have lost and to support our living veterans and their families.

Thank you to every veteran and military family in our community. Your service and resilience continue to inspire us all. We are here to serve you, today and every day.

WDVA Secretary Visits St. Croix County

In April, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary James Bond visited the St. Croix County Services Center to meet with County Veterans Service Director Phil Landgraf. This visit was part of Secretary Bond’s ongoing effort to build stronger connections with county veterans service offices across the state.

During the visit, Director Landgraf and Secretary Bond discussed key issues affecting veterans in our community—including transportation barriers, access to VA services, and the need for expanded mental health resources. Secretary Bond emphasized the importance of ensuring every veteran is aware of and connected to the benefits and support they have earned through service.

We are thankful for the opportunity to share our local challenges and successes, and we appreciate Secretary Bond’s commitment to listening and advocating for Wisconsin veterans.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Veterans, your mental health matters. Whether you’re adjusting to civilian life, managing service-connected challenges, or just having a tough time—you are not alone. Taking care of your mental health is a sign of strength, not weakness. You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out. Sometimes, talking with someone is the first step to feeling better.

If you or someone you know needs support:

  • Call or text 988
  • Chat online at 988lifeline.org

Veteran-specific support is available. If you’d like help connecting to local or VA mental health services, contact our office—we’re here to help.

Stay Connected
