It’s been a rough winter so far, and winter is still doing winter things across St. Croix County. Strong winds are causing blowing and drifting snow, which may quickly reduce visibility and lead to isolated drifting on roadways. Drivers should be prepared for changing conditions, even on routes that were recently cleared. In addition, cold temperatures are reducing or eliminating the effectiveness of de-icing chemicals. As a result, icy conditions may persist, particularly on bridges, curves, shaded areas, and low-traffic roads.
If you must travel, please plan and allow extra time. Motorists are encouraged to ensure they are prepared in the event they become stranded in the cold by carrying appropriate winter clothing, a charged mobile phone, and emergency supplies. St. Croix County Highway Department crews continue to monitor conditions and respond as weather allows.
